The Urban Assembly Academy for Future Leaders (UAAFL), located on 129th Street & Amsterdam Avenue, opened its doors to the Harlem Community in September 2015 as a product of the merger between Renaissance Leadership Academy & the Urban Assembly Institute for New Technologies.
During the 2016-17 school year, veteran Principal, Joseph D. Gates became the new Principal of UAAFL, leading the school to new heights. During his tenure, he introduced accelerated courses, regents expectations, an increase in student attendance and an improvement in overall student performance. In January of 2024, Principal Gates retired after 33 years in education and was succeeded by former UAAFL math teacher, Kofi Edusei, Jr.
Principal Edusei, with the support of Assistant Principal Darryll L. Barksdale, look to carry the tradition of excellence forward.
